A loan helped to purchase more cooking ingredients—onion, palm oil, peppers, etc.—to expand her business.

Amie's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 40-year-old Amie from Moriba Town branch. She is a married businesswoman with four children between the ages of 10 and 20, one of whom is currently attending school. She started this business to empower herself and her children.

Amie runs a retail business selling cooking ingredients to her customers around the community. She has been in this business for the past 15 years. Amie says that her main challenge is the increase in the prices of goods in the country.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase more ingredients—onion, palm oil, peppers, etc.—to expand her business. Amie says that the extra income from this loan will help to take care of her family. In the future, she would like to expand to a large scale. She thanks BRAC and Kiva for their support.

This loan is special because:

It provides access to funding in areas where there are limited alternative sources of finance.
