Romel is a 38-year-old married man with two dependent children, living in a rural area far from the city center, where agriculture is the main source of income. Romel began to earn a living driving agricultural machinery, later he learned to work the land planting rice thanks to the teachings of his father. Romel remembers that he started cultivating six hectares, realizing that he was getting high production yields he decided to plant 23 hectares, increasing his production and profit margins. He currently cultivates 50 hectares of rice and is a source of permanent employment for three men and often generates temporary jobs to apply pesticides to the crop.
Romel has visited the office of MiCrèdito with the purpose of requesting a KIVA credit with which he intends to buy fertilizer, minerals, certified seeds, pesticides against pests and pay his workers. With this important investment he ensures to increase production and sell his harvest at a better price. Finally, he wants to plant 100 hectares, improve his house and have his children study in private schools to achieve a better education.
