A loan helped to buy quality farm supplies such as fertilizers to improve her coffee farm.

Selly's story

Selly is a 40-year-old mother of 4 school-going children. She is very hardworking and gives everything for her children. With very few resources, she has pulled through and become a responsible and diligent smallholder farmer in the Nandihills area of Kenya. She is involved in dairy and coffee farming and also has a side business. Her work brings home important income and she gets help with her work from her family members.

Selly has requested a loan to buy quality farm supplies. She will use the money to buy fertilizers to improve her coffee farm.

Most microfinance organizations, particularly in the Nandihills area of Kenya, don’t give loans to smallholder farmers, but Juhudi Kilimo is different. It is expanding into this market and is happy to provide Kiva lenders with the opportunity to support Kenya's smallholder farmers.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
