A loan helped to purchase equipment to expand our menu so that we may offer more Middle Eastern and North African cuisine.

Howaida's story

I was in graduate school at the UTHealth School of Public Health pursuing my master's degree, and while sitting at the library one night studying, I got a text message from my brothers telling me they were offered a buy-out of a friend's business. I played my part as big sister and asked a barrage of questions. They asked me if I wanted in, and I said ok. I didn't join them in the endeavor because of my entrepreneurial desires, and I didn't have any. I joined them because I was the older sister and wanted to make sure whatever came next came with me protecting my brothers. Fast forward 17 years later, and here we are. We have sold our original business and are growing our current one. We are relocating to Alamo Ranch in 2023 as part of a multi-year expansion plan.

Although I didn't grow up thinking I had entrepreneurial desires, being a business owner has ignited a passion for it. It comes with many challenges and many personalities. Business owners require smarts, savviness, heart, and hard work. It is a dimension in which vision and creativity help create solid walls, and numbers and analytics help create solid foundations. It is a world in which you conceive the idea, birth the plan, go live with it to the world, give it love and guidance, and hope that it develops wings and grows. It is a part of your soul.

As the child of immigrant parents, I have given this my heart. The opportunity to have a business, nourish appetites, expand horizons, and educate the populace about the MENA (Middle East and North Africa), its culture, its traditions, and its beauty is the American Dream fulfilled.
