A loan helped to buy a small truck to transport agricultural surpluses.

Josue's story

Josue is a 45-year-old Mozambican. He lives in Moamba district, Mozambique with his family. He is a farmer with a deep experience in agriculture for over 20 years. Farming has been their family business for the last three generations.

This district has a high agricultural potential. In recent times, due to the business training he received with IDE, his business has grown a lot in quality and quantity. Seeing his business growing now, he needs to buy a 4-ton truck in order to transport his agricultural surplus to the market and provide rental services to other farmers as an alternative source of income.

Josue took his first Kiva loan earlier this year and repaid it very quickly with the profits he made from selling cucumbers in large quantities. He buys high quality seeds for cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes thus producing good quality vegetables, of which there is an increased demand from customers. The growth in business has had a positive impact on his wife and children.

Josue is now applying for his second Kiva loan in order to purchase a truck to transport his production to market efficiently and thus continue to expand his business and also help neighboring farmers.

This loan is special because:

It improves agriculture infrastructure and links smallholder farmers to markets.
