Groundnut Group's story

Pictured here are members of the “Groundnut” group from Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. They are petty businesswomen who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, in order to seek a loan of SLL 3,100,000.00 for the entire group. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their businesses, attract more customers, make more sales and profit and consequently improve their living conditions.

The leader of this group of entrepreneurs is Salamatu M.. Salamatu was born in a town called Kamakwe, in northern Sierra Leone. She is thirty-two years of ago. She is married and has four children. Her husband is a soldier and her children are attending primary and secondary schools. Salamatu sells locally produced goods and she has been a businesswoman for four years now. With her share of this loan, she will buy bags of groundnuts/peanuts to add to her business inventory.
