Neli Ernesto Z. was born in Chokwe District, Gaza Province in southern Mozambique. She is married and has nine children, four of them married and five who still go to school. Neli had no opportunity to study because she was an orphan. She lives in a rented house with some of her children and supports two grandchildren who live with her.
She left Chokwe to move to Maputo after she married. For more than six years she has had her own business raising and selling broiler chickens. Neli relies on the help of her husband, who works in the same business. She earns about 4,000 meticais per month, which she uses for household expenses. She also manages to save some money in her bank account.
She has never had loans from other banks. Neli learned about Hluvuku through her neighbor, who is also a customer of this institution. This is her first loan. She is asking for 10,000 meticais to buy chicks, feed and vaccines so she can increase her stock of chickens.
Neli is confident that she will pay ahead of time and ask for another loan to increase her quantity of livestock and improve her chicken coop.
