A loan helped fix our truck, refurbish rock climbing wall, and buy new inventory.

Blake's story

My name is Blake Maddux, and I am the founder of Elemental Climbing. Business began in 2015 after purchasing a 26 foot mobile rock climbing wall. Considering we had the only fully insured portable rock wall in the area, we experienced quick success through renting our wall out for parties and events.

In 2017, life took a bad turn as I experienced the death of my first wife to cancer leaving me to care for our young child. A few months later, my mother also passed away. In the meantime, my best friend (and fellow climber), Jeremy Richthofen, lost his mother as well. While we both navigated grief, Jeremy encouraged me to not give up on Elemental Climbing.

2019 brought more challenges with the onset of the pandemic, and we were forced to store the wall until gatherings could reconvene in 2021. Those four years were very difficult, however, they served to clear the path to reinvent the purpose of Elemental Climbing.

When Elemental Climbing began, we focused on renting out the climbing wall for parties, but now we are seeking to truly make a difference in our community. Jeremy is now my business partner, and together we are hoping to make rock climbing available to all people, especially the marginalized members of our community. It is our goal to grow our business enough to be able to bring our rock wall to events in underserved portions of our city for free.

I am happy to say that I am remarried now, and together, my wife and I have three children. So, for both Jeremy and I, rock climbing has turned into a family affair. It has helped us all through multiple difficulties, and it is our sincere hope to give others the opportunity to experience the same.
