A loan helped a community mechanic shop acquire tools to provide better services and local employment.

Hiran's story

I was a construction worker, and the desire to support my family led me to study automotive mechanics. In the search for employment in 2003, I started working in a mechanic shop. During my years as an employee, I began to see the need of the elderly and people with limited resources, many times; they left without fixing their cars because the labor was very expensive. Thus began my desire to have my workshop so I could help these people.

In 2018 after Hurricane Maria, my wife became unemployed, and at the same time, my 3-year-old baby was diagnosed with autism. Faced with the need to afford my baby's treatments alongside the desire to help others, in 2020, I entered a small shop and ventured out to be my boss. I was blessed, and the clients started coming, but I could only fit two cars in the shop. In 2021 I got a more prominent place; here I am, by faith and love for what I do. There is no greater satisfaction than being able to help people; cars are no longer a luxury; they are a necessity, especially in Puerto Rico, where public transportation is unreliable and has very limited reach. Seeing the joy and receiving the support and blessings of my clients motivates me to give my best every day.
