A loan helped to buy more coffee from the 526 families of small farmers associated with the cooperative, and in this way improve their income.

Cooperativa Agraria Aromas Del Valle's story

A few years ago, Cajamarca, one of the poorest regions of Peru, was very affected by the coffee-leaf rust plague and thousands of coffee farmers were hit by the economic crisis that this generated. Many coffee growers were adrift and sold their coffee to intermediaries at very low prices.

In response to this challenging context, Aromas del Valle was born in 2015, with a group of young leaders, interested in cultivating disease-resistant coffee varieties and, above all, focused on producing high-quality coffee to reach better markets.

The cooperative has worked closely with its partners located in the provinces of Jaén, San Ignacio and Cutervo, in Cajamarca, to improve its pre- and post-harvest processes, achieving recognition in several editions of the Cup of Excellence contest in Peru.

However, the cooperative is young and does not have the capital to buy as much coffee as it can sell. Their manager, Iván, hopes this loan will allow them to scale their business and improve the quality of life for their members.
