Hello – my name is Tammy, a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor located in beautiful Fayetteville, Arkansas. My counseling practice, Kaleidoscope Counseling, was initially established as a part-time practice in Northwest Arkansas in late 2015 as Pearson Counseling Services. Prior to private practice, and during the time of transition from part-time to full-time, I served children, teens, and families in a variety of settings, including school-based and foster care services through a local Northwest Arkansas community mental health agency.
My passion for serving youth, particularly those who have been through traumatic experiences, began early in my life and career, as I was deeply affected by not only my own life experiences but also through working with protective and foster care services following the completion of my undergraduate degree. My desire to further help others living with the effects of abuse and neglect led me to obtain my master’s degree in Professional Counseling, with a long-term goal of serving others through private practice. As a person who identifies as a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, I have found my life experiences and specialized pieces of training can be of great benefit to my clients in Northwest Arkansas.

Business Description
Since I transitioned to full-time work in 2017, my counseling practice has flourished through referrals from a variety of sources and was expanded to include telehealth services during the beginning of the pandemic. Initially, the focus of my practice was on serving children and adolescents, but I have since extended my work to include adults of all ages, addressing traumatic stress and its effects on daily functioning, as well as other concerns such as life transitions, and grief, depression, and anxiety. Services now include providing support to clients through telehealth/video counseling after obtaining a specialty in Technology Assisted Counseling.
In addition, a good portion of those I strive to help are members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and as I identify as LGBTQIA+ I can relate to and help my clients who have experienced trauma, are exploring their identities, or are struggling to navigate their lives, families, workplaces and/or educational environments. Through this Kiva loan, further education in a variety of treatment modalities will be pursued in order to provide a wider range of options for evidence-based interventions in addition to those already utilized within the practice. Training with the Trauma Research Foundation’s certificate program will expand my knowledge base and will be valuable when tailoring interventions to each client’s strengths and needs whom I seek to assist.
What is the purpose of this loan?
The funds from this loan will allow me to complete the Trauma Foundation’s Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies in order to learn additional skills to best serve my clients, which include children, adolescents, and adults in Northwest Arkansas who are experiencing mental health challenges, assist in building more opportunities for me to reach out for more community engagement, and expanding my services to reach more people in need, including those experiencing traumatic stress as well as members of the LGBTQIA+ community, since I can transition all my billing services to a contracted professional, freeing time spent in such tasks, updating as needed the equipment necessary to continue to provide telehealth services for clients which are best served through electronic communications, and for further marketing and advertising of the rebranded practice to focus on support for the LGBTQIA+ community, youth, and those experiencing traumatic stress.

What is the disbursed date?

What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
