A loan helped to buy inventory for her shoe store.

Santos Filomena's story

Santos comes from a rural area of San Marcos, Guatemala. She is 52 years old, married, and has eight children between the ages of 14 and 32. Santos never attended school due to the limited financial resources of her parents. Despite the fact that she never went to school she hopes her children take advantage of the opportunity to gain new learning in school.

In order to generate income and support her children Santos has a shoe store. She started it several years ago. She currently has two points of sale, and needs a loan to expand her inventory. For that reason Santos comes to Kiva to seek her first individual loan. With the loan she will buy a large quantity of shoes for women, men and children. Some are items requested specifically by her customers.

"It was very difficult to start this business; even more so because as a woman, no one believes in your prosperity. Nevertheless, I have been able to get ahead with this business, which has provided food for my children. I am grateful for the loan you are giving me. I can continue increasing my inventory and offering a variety to my current and future customers. Thank you Kiva lenders." Santos.
