A loan helped a Black-owned tech company launch an inclusive social media app that changes how we all use the internet.

Vincent's story

Raised on the Eastside of Sacramento, I graduated from Hiram Johnson West Campus, a college prep high school on the south side of Sacramento. In 2002, I was blessed to be the highest-ranked football recruit in Fresno State history. After I received my Bachelor of Arts in Communications, I signed a 5-year artist and publishing deal with Grammy and Oscar award-winning Entertainer, Jamie Foxx. Through his industry experience, I built a network with companies such as ESPN and Dave and Busters. During this time, I created Kolyde, a social media debate app for higher education, which received a 6-figure investment from Bitwise Industries, a Googled-funded tech incubator. Kolyde was recently launched at its first major California State University in March of 2022.

What motivates me is my desire to bring positive online interactions between students and professors. My college experience was amazing due to my professors and their ability to have their classes engage in difficult but crucial conversations. Since COVID-19 the college classroom experience has vastly changed. I want to bring a platform for meaningful conversations to occur within complex and difficult conversations all while promoting critical thinking. I am excited to have a University using the app in Fall 2022.
