A loan helped a disabled-woman-owned business get started.

Sydni's story

I grew up in a very conservative home where piercings and other forms of self-expression were not allowed. In my teen years, I longed for the ability to express my personality in my outward appearance. I felt stifled. So naturally, when I turned 18 the first thing I did was get my ears pierced. I couldn't believe the confidence that came with such a small thing. Over the years, I have accumulated 16 piercings, with each one leading to the euphoria I felt when I got my first.

Then, I discovered the art of ear curation; the combining of different piercings and jewelry to create a cohesive piece of art right on your ear. I discovered that there are many creative and beautiful body jewelry options available, and I quickly designed my own ear curation. I would photoshop jewelry pieces onto pictures of my ears to get ideas and create unique combinations.

To do this, I utilized the help of a local piercing shop. I became inspired to help others create their own curations, but the shops in my area had a different way of doing things. I have my own vision for how a shop can support and encourage clients to express themselves. Now I am creating that shop and following my dreams. I can't wait to help others feel the same confidence and euphoria that I did with their own jewelry and piercings.

Along with my 11 years of experience as a piercing customer, I have 1 year of experience working as Front of House for a tattoo and piercing shop. This experience solidified my desire to continue this work, but this time in a shop that I design. I also have 10 years of experience working in customer service which has prepared me for this endeavor.
