A loan helped a disabled Black-owned content creator self-publish his 2nd cookbook.

Calvin's story

Hello, I’m Calvin aka theglutenfreechef. I am a Black disabled social entrepreneur and content creator. My gluten-free journey began in 2010 when a series of sudden onset bouts of pain and fatigue started and snowballed, eventually leading to a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and ME/CFS. These disabling conditions converged and changed the course of my life. I quickly realized that I would need to use my ingenuity and creativity to curate a lifestyle and career that allowed me to work remotely and within the constraints of my disability. Fast forward to 2012 and I started the personal blog and brand theglutenfreeblog.com to chronicle my journey through disability and gluten-free living. It was my first foray into content creation and writing as a professional blogger.

Many of my early recipes were sketched in my now well-word composition notebook and came from a need to survive on a shoestring budget. The blog replaced my journal and became a way to document my experiences and share all the things I wish someone had told me about living gluten-free. Soon I was working with brands like Bob’s Red Mill on recipe development and content creation. The blog led me to a career as a commercial baker, educator, content creator, entrepreneur, and published author.

This loan is special because:

It supports a Black entrepreneur in expanding their business.
