Hola I am Wilda Santamaría, a 50 + boricua entrepreneur from Bayamón, Puerto Rico. I created Islajamas, the first local sleepwear brand inspired by our Puerto Rican culture. Since I was a child, I have always been in love with pajamas and I always remember how we loved as a family to dress up alike in our Christmas Pjs. After years as a communications professional with more than 20 years in the Marketing and Public Relations field, I decided to work on launching my own sleepwear brand, one that, as I experienced as a child, could unite families in a fun way while enhancing the richness of the Puerto Rican culture.
It is my goal to elevate Islajamas to be considered more than a sleepwear brand, educating and raising awareness on the importance of protecting our native species. Starting with Paco Panfunflas, the brand’s character is a native parrot that has been in danger of extinction.

Islajamas is the first sleepwear brand for the whole family including pets, inspired by its colors and designs in Puerto Rico’s culture. Our catalog currently includes pajamas for adults and teenagers, unisex matching socks, matching dog bandanas, and coffee mugs, and they can be found through our website and social media.
The idea of Islajamas was kept as just an idea for years, but it was during the pandemic time that it saw the light. Basically, it was during lockdown that the business was finally born, developed, and launched. Taking advantage of the economic aid and education, was the definite booster needed for my dream to see the light. With the help of this loan, I will launch the children’s collection that will come with a children’s book with the purpose of educating kids on the importance of taking care of the planet and its species.
What is the purpose of this loan?
The need for this loan is to be able to launch the next adult collection; the kids' collection (that will include pajamas, socks, and the book collection): a very important market within the sleepwear business. I also want to grow our product catalog to include other sleeping products and our digital marketing strategies by adding a social media specialist to our team, so that we can reach a wider Boricua market, in and out of the island, one that is always in need to embrace it’s Boricua roots.
True to our cause and because one of our priorities with our brand is to educate our public on the importance of conserving our native fauna, the loan will also help us to transition our packaging to a more eco-friendly one.

Fixed: the total loan amount must be raised in order for funds to be sent to the Lending Partner. If the loan is not funded in full within the fundraising period, the loan will expire and any funds raised will be returned to lenders' Kiva accounts.
Flexible: any funds raised within 30 days will be passed along to the Lending Partner facilitating the loan and they will come up with other sources of funding to cover the rest of the loan amount.
What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
