Mujeres De Xecaculew Group's story

Juana, a 52-year-old mother of seven children who are all married and over the age of 22. She is a grandmother of 13. Juana is happy that several of her grandchildren live with her along with their parents.

For eight years, Juana has sold aluminum, porcelain, and plastic dishes. She also weaves plastic flower baskets that she sells in her community market two days each week. Juana is determined to expand her businesses and increase her income. She is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy more dishes and fiber.

Six Maya K’iche ladies have elected Juana to be the Secretary of their Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres de Xecaculew” in a rural area in the department/state of Totonicapan. They all have the same businesses as Juana. They look forward to their monthly meetings when they offer each other support. The women make their loan payments and then participate in an interactive educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program. Topics for the interactive training are relevant to their lives and cover an aspect of four subjects: health, women, family, business. Often, the ladies share what they learn with family members and friends.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for partnering with Friendship Bridge! Juana and her friends are so grateful to access credit and education. They look forward to a more successful future!
