I was born in El Salvador at a time when the country was torn apart by a senseless war. As a child, I saw and experienced things no child should endure. Around me, I saw suffering, poverty, violence, and death. Despite all the trauma to many of us, something beautiful happened. At my tender age, I began to notice the kind-hearted individuals within the community who were always willing to risk their lives to help the needy. Usually, the elderly were the ones who needed the most help because of physical disabilities which prevented them from getting medical care. I admired those heroes and I wanted to help as well but I was just a child myself. That is why when I had the opportunity to come to the U.S. when I was nine, I vowed to never forget that feeling.
I learned English and acculturated pretty well to the American way of life. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a public health career and for the last 12 years, I've worked with entities in the home health industry. There has come a point though in which I've realized that my need to expand my reach and efforts are cut short being behind a desk all day. You see, I have an unexplainable and uncontainable desire to help/educate my communities; particularly the Hispanic communities around Houston. Additionally, through the years, I've seen the health gap which leads to decreased quality care and it is clearly evident with the elderly/disabled.
I decided to leave the corporate world a few weeks ago to embark on this entrepreneurial journey. My desire to use my talents to fulfill my higher purpose is too strong. I want to be that voice that sheds light and advocates positive change for our elderly/disabled in surrounding communities.

Business Description
Raquel Ideal Care LLC focuses on rendering health education/quality non-skilled home care to the elderly/disabled by personally sitting down with the client/caregiver in a consultation. The overall goal of my business is to reach the communities by way of education and action. Over the years and through my experience, I have seen the lack of health information people have access to which prevents them from tapping into community resources. This gap leads to reduced quality care and consequently reduced quality of life for our elderly/disabled.
At the moment, I'm operating online and on a mobile basis as a consultant only since I'm missing the state licensure needed to be a home care agency. My hope is to be able to get the licensure with this loan so my efforts are increased.
Even though I've been doing this type of work for 12 years, I've not had an impact on reach capacity. That's why I made the decision to leave the corporate world to fully focus on nurturing this "mission with a vision" that I've carried in my heart for a long. My passion is educating and helping others by guiding them about caring for their elderly or disabled loved ones. I've known one of my talents is my ability to relate to many people from all walks of life and build rapport. This in itself helps me gain access to that group of people and eventually that community. I find extreme joy in being able to sit down with the elderly/caregivers as they share their stories. I feel sometimes we lose that human side to healthcare and we forget the main reason why we are in the field: compassion. One of the core approaches my business highlights is that very same: that human aspect which makes a huge difference in the end.
What is the purpose of this loan?
This loan would facilitate covering the costs/fees for the much-needed state licensure and certifications. Once these are issued, I will be able to open a home care agency and expand my services. Additionally, the loan would help in covering business insurance and initial marketing materials. For me, this loan symbolizes hope. It will jumpstart my business, give my efforts more reach capacity, bring jobs to the community, and help countless elderly/disabled individuals who will finally get the quality health care they are needing.

What is the disbursed date?

Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
