A loan helped a black immigrant woman buy supplies to help her community eat healthier.

Angela's story

I'm a Jamaican, and if anyone knows anything about Jamaicans, we love meat, and so did I. So I'm from a flesh-eating family and background. However, as time went on, I became an SDA Christian. Healthy living and healthy eating are a big part of SDA culture. Little by little, I would discontinue eating red meat, chicken, and dairy. For many years I would have eggs, fish, and sometimes cheese. After much research and many seminars, I realized that I could receive all the necessary nutrients on a vegan diet without the drawbacks of eating animal products, so I became vegan.

I have been a vegan for almost 20 years and have been making delicious healthy, nutritious meals. At first, it was not that easy, and I went through much trial and error to maintain this lifestyle. I'm a mother of four children and a grandmother of 5. I have developed a tremendous knowledge of the more healthy ways for you to eat, from babies to seniors.

I love eating healthy and have seen how it has positively transformed my life. I love to cook, and I enjoy helping others eat healthier. I have been cooking for many parties and individuals, and it's great to see people enjoy all that I make, whether it's smoothies, juices, bread, protein dishes, carbohydrates dishes, or gluten-free dishes.

My passion is to create new recipes. It's my delight to be in the kitchen! It gives me a sense of relaxation and satisfaction. I'm motivated to help others grow in the area of cooking meals that will improve their health in the long run.
