Nam Coffee is an ode to my journey traversing Vietnam and California. Bringing together farmers from the picturesque mountainous region of southern Vietnam to roasters in Los Angeles, I’m driven by a distinctly global ethos.
I have long had a keen sense of what makes a quality cup of coffee. Born in Pleiku, a city in Vietnam that’s home to coffee, and tea farms. I enjoyed coffee from a very young age with my older brother and sister. As a twelve-year-old, I gained first-hand experience in the coffee industry when my mom opened up a stand in Saigon’s District One. She was a single mother who worked long hours so I could live a better life. This was the first of many businesses we collaborated on together. Now, years later, I’m ecstatic that I can build off everything I learned from that alleyway coffee stand and continue our family tradition of cultural pride and entrepreneurship.
When I moved to Orange County, California, to pursue a career in fashion, I was frustrated by the lack of palatable, suitable Vietnamese coffee brands that were available for diaspora communities and everyday coffee drinkers. Though Vietnam is the second-largest coffee producer in the world, there’s a misconception that our coffee is bitter, low quality, and not on par with global heavyweights.
When first developing our roasts, I paid careful attention to all of the tiny details that go into achieving perfection. We roast premium, light robusta beans at lower temperatures for longer periods of time to ensure that every bean gets a nice coat of oil and a lasting, vibrant aroma. We’ve also guaranteed that our products are organic with no additives. I’m beyond proud to share it with you.

What is the purpose of this loan?
The purpose of this loan will help me produce more products to help farmers in Vietnam and labor in California. We would like to use that loan to run marketing, fix the website, and run ads, videos, and photos to customers. Fixed: the total loan amount must be raised in order for funds to be sent to the Lending Partner. If the loan is not funded in full within the fundraising period, the loan will expire and any funds raised will be returned to lenders' Kiva accounts.
Flexible: any funds raised within 30 days will be passed along to the Lending Partner facilitating the loan and they will come up with other sources of funding to cover the rest of the loan amount.
What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
