A loan helped a minority woman-owned medical wig maker buy inventory and get certified to help clients with hair loss.

Quiyara's story

Growing up my siblings and I struggled with hair loss due to alopecia and I lost my hair really bad after my pregnancies. I struggled to find wigs with my natural texture of hair, and I knew other women who were struggling as well. I wanted to offer inclusive wigs for my community, and also make them affordable for my clients that often suffer from cancer, alopecia, lupus, and HIV/Aids. I wanted to make sure they could use their health insurance to cover the medical wig units. Being that I have a professional background in finance, working for a bank for the last 6 years, I knew that I wanted to become an entrepreneur to help my family and my community.

I decided to pursue a career that is fulfilling, philanthropic, and profitable. On this journey of becoming an entrepreneur, I want to have a major impact on the BIPOC community by having my medical wigs in every hospital and store that predominantly serves the BIPOC community. I want people of color to be represented by offering 13 different textures and lengths from 10”-40” to make them feel as closely like themselves as possible, and by handcrafting units that emulate their natural hair, especially while they are going through traumatic medical circumstances.

I started my business by letting people know in my community that I was going to make wigs, after working on hair styling from the young age of 9 years old. I started getting requests and positive responses on social media, and it allowed me to make my first unit. I fell in love with the reaction from my clients after I pass them the mirror to try their new wigs. It motivates me to bring smiles to my clients' faces. In 5 years, I see my business serving all the hospitals in North Carolina & South Carolina, with many happy clients across my community!
