With six grades of formal education, Susana, 21 years old, lives in her parents' house whom she cares for with great love. She has decided to become a successful businessowner. Susana has a craft business, which she began thirty months ago. Weekly, she makes five dozen lovely keychains with beaded designs of flowers and birds.
With a second Kiva loan, Susana will purchase a large amount of beads for beading to work on her orders. She states that, with the support of this financing, she will be able to increase her earnings and expand her business. Susana wants to increase the orders and, so, to have her own employees.
Susana is one of the nine Tzutuhil Maya women who form part of the Friendship Bridge communal bank Mujeres Tzanchaj. These women live in the department/state of Sololá. They want to invest the Kiva capital in the craft, textile and firewood-selling businesses.
The women appreciate the monthly educational trainings, part of the Microcrédito Plus program of loans, education, and health services. Through images and games, a facilitator shares information with them in their Maya language about healthy habits, basic hygiene, and nutrition as well as the precautions to take during this time of the pandemic. Every two months, they have access to basic health services.
It would be impossible for these women to access a loan from a bank. Thank you for opening doors to a better future!
