My name is Mariana Caballero, I grew up in Mazatlan, Mexico, where I fell in love with the arts after winning a painting contest at 5 years old. My mother was a professor and owned a k-12 small school. I grew up in an environment full of education, art, and curiosity and it allowed me to start teaching and sharing at the early age of 15. Now I am a mother of 5, an artist, painter, muralist, as well as, a bi-lingual educator of expressive arts dedicated to the transformation of lives through the arts. My biggest passion is to teach and share and interact with the arts. I offer unique programs for both children and adults. I obtained a degree in childhood education, as well as many art and coaching certifications. Now I have successfully facilitated hundreds of art workshops in both public and private school settings and nonprofits. I guide my students through the processes of renewal and empowerment, in a comfortable and encouraging learning environment. Using the arts as a catalyst, I’ve helped people connect their hearts and minds by listening intently and helping others discover their artists within. I am very passionate about my art, my murals, and about using expressive arts as healing tools.

Expressive Arts: Connecting Hearts and Minds LLC is a gallery and art studio, but also is the space where we conduct courses, workshops, and personalized and group training programs for organizations and companies using innovative techniques and practices that incorporate Expressive Arts and HeartMath tools. Our workshops are practical and interactive for self-discovery and self-improvement, through art with which we promote inner healing. I currently collaborate with various organizations such as the YWCA and TUSD school district here in Tucson with the purpose of helping the optimal and integral well-being of people, to develop inner transformation, build personal resilience, and become the best version of themselves. Before the pandemic, our space was full of movement and color. Now we need help to open it back again. Having our space ready and open again will allow offering our programming on a regular basis, as well as, open the space for collaboration with other artists that need a place to showcase and create.
What is the purpose of this loan?
With this loan, I purpose to invest in the rehabilitation of our gallery and art studio that because of COVID-19 had to close down, ending most of our in-house activities. The rehabilitation of the gallery will allow us to remodel three areas of our space to re-open again this year. The gallery where we will showcase and display mine and other local artists’ art to create revenue. The art/dance studio area where we will create a collaborative space for local artists and the participants of our workshops. Bathroom and kitchenette area to provide a complete and comfortable space for our visitors. Part of the money will also be used on the translation and creation of a better-intended website in order to better present the information about our services and space opportunities. Another small part will be used for marketing (flyers, social media content, and promotion) and other miscellaneous like a sign and security cameras.

Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
