I am Felecia, owner, and CEO of Bettie's Boutique in Fayetteville, Arkansas located in Northwest Arkansas (NWA) an area of now over 500,000 residents. I am originally from a much smaller southern town of Marianna, Arkansas where I graduated high school and then worked as a corrections officer for a number of years. This experience sparked my passion for criminal justice. I moved to NWA in 2012 because I needed a change and its population and demographics were growing and so it was a better and perfect place to settle myself and my young daughter for our futures. Here I attended an excellent community college called NWACC and obtained my criminal justice degree, and I worked for this county as a juvenile officer and then as a juvenile probation officer for over 6 years. I am now fully committed to my entrepreneurship journey having launched Bettie’s Boutique at the very beginning of the pandemic in 2020, but even in spite of that time of hardship we pushed forward, and we survived and the store is thriving. Bettie's Boutique has a sole purpose to service the limited market of plus-size fashion here in NWA and to change the way plus-size fashion is represented and celebrated.

What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Bettie's Boutique is named after a very important lady in my life- my dear sweet mother who taught me everything I know about style, life, and fashion, and to this day she is still a 70-plus-year-old fashionista. At Bettie's Boutique, we specialize in urban apparel with a major emphasis on the plus and curvy size clothing for women. I have lived in Northwest Arkansas for 18 years and one of the biggest problems I've faced as an African-American and a plus-size woman is shopping for clothes that fit my style. The plus-size market here in NWA is very limited and it’s our goal to solve that problem. Bettie's Boutique has operated for almost two years, we have a small space brick and mortar location we share with a friend of mine in her larger store, located in the heart of Fayetteville’s shopping district. We also host an online shop at realfashionqueen.com. We use our Instagram account with over 1500 followers to promote the business and to network with the business community. This has brought us, customers, from all walks of life and we have been blessed to work with some inclusive and modern local organizations in the area for businesses like EforAll of NWA, NWA GIRL GANG, Black-owned NWA, and also Interform for fashion artists. After two years it is time to expand and spread our wings wider! I am currently working with the leasing manager at the NWA Mall to rent out a store space for just Bettie’s BoutiqueWe is all about Fashion Equality and Size inclusivity. It’s our goal and vision to provide an environment in the heart of NWA where women can shop for what they love where they love no matter their size.
What is the purpose of this loan?
Our plan for the Kiva loan is to continue the good work we have already started at Bettie's Boutique. If awarded a Kiva loan, we plan to put it to good use to open our own expanded store to help with different moving expenses to our own larger location, to purchase new inventory, a nice sign, and to hire a full-time employee to help manage the store. We also plan to use it to help with marketing and visibility, and to build a strong SEO engine for our website so that women are able to shop not just locally but worldwide. Times we are living in good marketing across social media is key to a successful business, and it’s a Bettie's Boutique goal to show up across all social media outlets. Also, a big part of our business purpose is to serve a need within the community at least once a year. I would like to use a portion of the Kiva loan to do just that by being able to host our second annual holiday clothes and toy drive this holiday season. The first year we held this event it was a huge success and the community call to action response was huge, so it’s our desire to continue to use our platform to make a difference and give back to the community that believes in and shops Bettie's Boutique.
