Charliya's story

I am a single parent and entrepreneur who was also raised by a single woman. My mom worked hard to care for me, especially my hair. My mom grew my hair to be long to the middle of my back. In school, I would get teased because of my long silky hair and dark skin tone. By the end of high school, I had many of my own experiences with hair, some good and bad.

After high school, I went off to college where I obtained my Bachelor's degree. My major was in Biology, while I minored in Psychology and Infectious Diseases. Throughout my journey in college, while I thought I was in love with medicine, I began to study and love hair. I wanted my hair longer, so I got my hair braided up, and long extensions were sewn into my braids.

Once I graduated college, I got a job as a customer service and marketing representative at an insurance agency to learn sales and marketing. After six months with the insurance company, I started selling hair out of my bedroom. Two years later, I just opened up my hair store in a business building along with 7 other small businesses.
