A loan helped a member to buy fresh fish and vegetables to sell.

01_Khodoba Group's story

This group, which has been in place since January 2001, is made up of six women from the same village. They are parents, friends and neighbors and are strongly united together. They are mostly involved in raising animals.

Madame Fatou, age 50, standing at the left of the photo, is the group representative. She is married and mother to seven children, of whom three are girls. All her children are in school. She has been able to save up a lot of money in order to obtain a loan and grow her business.

She plans to buy cases of fish, bags of vegetables (cabbage, carrots, cassava and eggplants), pay for her transport and ultimately resell the items at a good profit. She will reserve part of the loan to serve as working capital. She is the only one who runs this type of business in her neighborhood and she also sells to nearby villages.

With the profits, she will save up, continue to grow her working capital and care for her children with clothing, school fees and other expenses.

In this group: Fatou, Fatou, Khotte, Rokhaya, Rama, Seynabou
