A loan helped a member to purchase an Esky (cooler) and some fishing materials.

Freeway Sisters Group's story

Freda Mathew is a young lady in her early 30's. She is married with 1 child and is from Maingiwan Village along the east coast of East Sepik Province. Her husband is from the same village and is a fisherman.

Her main business is selling of fresh fish, and she sells twice a week, because her husband does fishing every week. Her family owns an outboard motor and dingy, which they use to go fishing. Her family also has various sizes of fishing nets and fishing lines to catch the bigger fish.

Fish is a healthy food, and her family loves having fish in every meal. It is also a staple food in all the villages along the coast where she lives.

She has high cash flow daily because of the quality fish she sells like Red Emperor and Yellowfin. Freda has good pricing as well, which attracts her customers to buy. Because of her pricing, she is better off than other fish sellers in the town markets.

She is wiser now, and from this loan, she will be buying a bigger Esky (i.e., cooler) to pack the fish to take to town markets and sell.
