We are connected by a love for our home, the island of Kaua'i, and a shared desire to create sustainable, high-quality food to feed the island, which is primarily dependent on imported goods. We share this drive and motivation, but also bring years of experience in related fields. Jade is a farmer versed in organic and biodynamic farming.
Jim and Patti have decades of business experience between them and I am a chef who has a passion for sourcing locally grown ingredients and transforming them into delicious and nutritious food. Between us we have the ability to grow Next Wave Island Poultry into a strong, sustainable and regenerative food source for the island of Kaua'i!

Business Description
Next Wave Island Poultry began as Crossroad Pastures at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. When the founding owners decided this year that they could no longer sustain the business while trying to raise a new baby, they decided to sell it and cut their losses. As one of a handful of egg producers, and the only broiler chickens farmed on the island, to lose Crossroad Pastures would have been a blow to the community and a step backward for food security on the island of Kaua'i.
So, beginning in March of this year, we purchased Crossroads Pastures and rebranded it as Next Wave Island Poultry. We have a mission to grow the chicken and egg operation using the cleanest and most regenerative methods available to us. We are proud already of the innovations we've made to our pastured chicken tractors, our expansion of the egg-laying flock and the move towards expanding our pasture operations to include other small farms that would benefit from chickens on their fallow fields.
We are also thrilled to hear the feedback from people who are excited to have locally, organically raised meat and eggs again available to them.
What is the purpose of this loan?
Our next steps are to streamline the processing of our meat birds and chicken eggs to ensure that, as we grow, we are working as efficiently as possible while providing the safest and highest quality products to our customers.
The loan will allow us to quickly purchase these key pieces of equipment including a commercial egg-washer, a scalding tank for the cleanest and most efficient chicken processing and a commercial refrigerator unit for the safe storage of our meat and eggs.

What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
