A loan helped to buy enough crates of soda, sugar for passion juice and drinking water.

Hasifah's story

Hasifah is 32 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has two children who are both currently in school.

For the past seven years, Hasifah has been working hard to manage her beverages business in which she sells soft drinks like passion juice, water and sodas.

To help expand her business, Hasifah has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy enough crates of soda, sugar for passion juice and drinking water to resell. This will help Hasifah to generate greater profits and her production will increase and attract more revenue. She will manage to buy food for her family. Hasifah hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a piece of land.

Hasifah is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Hasifah who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
