A loan helped a hispanic self-made woman gain financial independence and grow her locally owned business.

Maria's story

I started my business in 2020 and managed to make this my full-time job. I grew up in Mexico where my father owned his own businesses and it inspired me to do the same. I had an idea and it has now become an amazing brand thanks to the support of my community that allows me to express my creativity through my candles. I have also been inspired by the independent and hard-working women who surround me and this motivates me to be a role model to other women around me. I am also motivated by other small business owners in my community who have created a creative space and supportive surroundings. I actively participate in local farmers' markets where I get to see people’s true reactions to my products and excitement to smell them for the first time. These customers usually come back to visit and support me at these events. I hope to continue to do this for many years to come.
