A loan helped to provide working capital to the farmers of the community-owned bank.

Tamarindo Community-Owned Bank's story

Welcome to Tamarindo!

Tamarindo (Tamarind in Spanish) is a small, rural, remote indigenous community mostly of farmers that cultivate tamarind, other fruits and vegetables.

The Tamarindo Community-Owned Bank is a small, indigenous, women-led financial institution that provides members of the community with the ability to set aside savings, take out small loans and attain financial literacy.

Many members of this community are financially excluded from more traditional financial institutions, but this Community-Owned Bank gives them a chance to secure financial help. Its members are very committed to the growth of the rural bank since it's given them the opportunity to improve their quality of life.

The Tamarind Community-Owned Bank is applying for their first Kiva loan to access working capital so its farmers can buy seeds and invest in their crops.

Thank you for contributing to the financial resilience of community-owned banks in indigenous communities that have been historically excluded from basic financial services.

This loan is special because:

It empowers the most vulnerable women in Central America by extending access to financial services.
