A loan helped a woman-owned brewery change the face of craft beer in New York State.

Marina's story

I am Marina and I'm the principal owner and founder of Nine Spot Brewing. Opening in Rochester, NY, Nine Spot is a brewery/taproom that takes all of its inspirations from my incredible state. Built on the truest intentions of the New York Farm Brewing Initiative, we source our ingredients from local producers. When you walk in, you’ll have the ability to sample not only our great beers but guest taps that I’ve scoured the state to find.

This is the culmination of my 20-year career in the craft beverage industry. In 2017, my concept found others who valued my commitment to changing the face of this primarily white male-dominated industry. We worked tirelessly to get everything off the ground until tragedy hit in 2019 when we tragically lost our head brewer, founder, and friend. An unimaginable loss, but I tried to carry on. 2 months later, my husband and I lost our home in a devastating fire, weeks before our wedding. We don’t need to remind anyone what 2020 brought. But, we used quarantine to fine-tune our recipes and plans. We waited until the time was right again. In 2021, Nine Spot Brewing was reborn.

I'm excited to share our core lineup including beers like Unique New York, a wheat beer made with exotic hibiscus, lime, and regional honey, originally brewed for International Women in Brewing Day. We're more than just a craft brewery. We found an incredible location, rich with history. We’re building our facilities with a focus on energy/water conservation. We’ve committed to be a benchmark employer that advances diversity and also one that offers benefits and wages that set a “new normal” in craft beer.
