A loan helped a minority-owned business get more kitchen equipment and a new sign.

Douglas's story

I grew up in Dover, DE with my parents and 2 of my brothers. My mother loved to cook, and that was my start with cooking. I never even dreamed of owning a restaurant, it just happened. My mother sold dinners to help pay our bills while my younger brother was a cook at Denny's for 12 years. He and I were very close. In 2018, my younger brother was murdered in the school parking lot. He was shot 4 times. It broke my heart and devastated me. I decided then I was gonna start a restaurant, and in my restaurant would hang his guitar which people from all over came during our grand opening and signed. Today it is the center of my restaurant.

I have been an entrepreneur since 2001. I have done many successful things including medical transportation for the Medicaid program in Delaware for 10 years. Today, I completely concentrate on my restaurant. I have let all other businesses go. I see my restaurant becoming the next national franchise. I also am currently working on getting my seasonings in the stores. We sell out almost every day and have great demand for our products. I currently have an artist who has already rendered drawing for our packages. After that, I will find a co-packer and try and get a major deal with grocery stores and a food supplier like SYSCO. We have survived every storm and have yet to close our doors. Our product speaks for itself. You can see all of the reviews on our Facebook.
