A loan helped us buy equipment so I can expand my business.

Mechelle's story

I grew up in the city of Chicago. I am the 4th born of 6 siblings. I was separated from the rest of my siblings at the age of 12 after the passing of my mother and grandmother. I went to live with my great aunt who was a great cook. She always cooked Sunday dinner and had me in the kitchen right beside her. She is who taught me how to cook. As the years went on, I grew up and started cooking for the family I created and soon realized cooking was what I wanted to do long term career-wise.

I moved to Wisconsin after I had my 3rd child. I soon started making friends and started cooking here for close friends and family. In January 2020, I decided to promote my cooking from my Facebook page and started selling food from my home. I came up with my original name which is soul food chef because that was the type of food I loved to cook and was best at cooking. My clientele grew immediately. The more my clientele grew the more it fueled me because being in the kitchen has always been my happy place
