A loan helped to recover their plantation from the damage caused by volcanic ash.

Manuna's story

Manuna and her husband work hand in hand in running their farming business. They have only one son, and he is still in high school. All this hard work is for their son's future, to be well educated, and also be self-dependent.

It is their daily routine to spend time at the plantation, hoeing and making sure it is well taken care of. When the crop is harvested, she sells it at the local market to local buyers. She and her husband plan to export their crops overseas, so they could earn more money.

In January, Tonga was affected by a number of disasters, including tsunamis and volcanoes. The ash from the volcano covers the surface of the land, causing dryness of green plants, including Manuna's plantation.

Their yams were badly affected, and that is why she is applying for this loan to recover her plantation by re-planting the yams.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
