A loan helped to buy our equipment and grow our small business.

Maria's story

My mother Tiby and I (Maria) grew up in a beautiful National Park in the south of our native Venezuela, the Gran Sabana. There we learned the love of nature and the importance of conserving our lungs of the earth, The Amazon Rainforest, in addition to traveling through the impressive landscapes such as the tepuyes, especially Roraima Tepuy. After trekking several times to the top of Roraima Tepuy, we realized the importance of clothing for the protection of our skin, and comfort, and without stopping feeling beautiful in that immensity.

From there, the idea of creating our brand of sustainable activewear for women was born. Many years later, we had to leave our beloved country and moved to what is now our second home, Chicago, Illinois, USA. From here and the need to see our dream come true, we decided to start our brand Mawari Activewear (Mawari in the Pemon dialect honors the protective spirits of nature).

Mawari Activewear is oriented to satisfy the needs of those empowered women who want to look comfortable and fashionable for all day-to-day activities, with environmentally sustainable textiles from the same Amazon Rainforest that saw us grow. Through our clothes, we want to send a message of awareness for the conservation of our natural spaces and thus be able to preserve our planet for future generations.
