I grew up in Rochester and worked pretty much from the age of fourteen because I’ve always been taught that you have to work for what you want; nothing in life is free. I went to Alfred State to study biology, where I started learning about the different needs of peoples’ skin. After college, I got married, had my two daughters, and started working in manufacturing. I’ve moved up to my current role as an inventory control specialist. During the pandemic, I began to want to have my own business and work for myself and for my family.
I have always been surrounded by people of color that suffer from eczema, dark spots hyperpigmentation, and dry skin, who are not able to go to the store and purchase soap that can help with all those needs. I started my soaping business based on the needs of my daughter and husband's skincare needs. I love seeing the differences in how people's skin can be nourished just by making a change and purchasing the skincare products that I offer. My greatest victory are seeing peoples’ skin change over time.

About 2 years ago I started making my own soap when we could not find the right soap in stores that would help my daughter or husband’s skin. My friends and extended family started requesting it, and before I knew it, I had a business running. I currently make soap, body butter, and body oils to enhance the nourishment of the skin. I choose my ingredients carefully: I mainly use shea butter, coconut oil, palm oil, and essential oils. When choosing ingredients, it’s important to me to clean, moisturize, and leave my customers smelling good. Currently, most of my business is done at local farmers’ markets with the help of my daughters, and I have a small but loyal social media following. I would like to expand my online business and build out a website where people can order. Eventually, I would like to go back to school to get an aesthetician's license to open a small brick-and-mortar spa where I can offer a natural experience and my own products.

Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
