A loan helped to access quality farm inputs and services.

Zakaria's story

Zakaria is a 30-year-old female maize farmer in Kaduna, Nigeria's northern state, where she grows maize to support her family. Zakaria is married with two children. Maize farming is her community's primary occupation, and like many other farmers in her community, the income she earns from cultivating is insufficient to improve her family's standard of living.

Babban Gona will provide her with high-quality inputs, allowing her to increase her yields. As a result of the training programs, Zakaria will be able to farm more sustainably. For example, her fertilizer training will emphasize micro-dosing fertilizers to reduce environmental impact while increasing yields. Zakaria expects 40 bags per hectare from this year's harvest, double the national Nigerian average of 20 bags per hectare.

Zakaria is seeking an increased loan toward leasing more land and expanding her farming business. Babban Gona will provide her with higher-yielding seeds, fertilizers, and herbicides that will improve her farming operations and increase her yield. Zakaria intends to put the proceeds to invest back in her farm.

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers and helps them increase yields.
