A loan helped to buy farm inputs, such as quality certified seeds and fertilizer to improve her harvest, and to fulfill her dreams and aspirations.

Margaret's story

A positive attitude and confidence are 33-year-old Margaret's key qualities that propel her in her day-to-day farming activities. She is a smallholder, woman farmer, who has combined her efforts, talents, insights, enthusiasm and inspiration. She is full of dreams and aspirations for her life. She resides in a remote village in the lush hills of Eldoret.

Margaret, who has lovely children (4), is a dairy and crop farmer, who injects passion and enthusiasm into her work. The biggest problem that farmers from her village face is the huge deficit in access to agricultural inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, which means that their yields and incomes are far below what they could be. Juhudi Kilimo partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholders around Kenya. Through these financial services, farmers from Eldoret, like Margaret, can now buy productive assets and important agricultural inputs for use on their farms.

Margaret is requesting a loan to buy farm inputs, such as quality certified seeds and fertilizer. Her loan will enable her to improve production through the use of these quality farm inputs. This intervention will help Margaret fill the increasing demand for food in the market, and in the process, generate more income to repay her loan and improve the quality of life of her family.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
