A loan helped a member to buy an industrial stove.

Las Rosas De Chuamango Group's story

Many Guatemalan families have gotten ahead thanks to selling food and snacks; this is how Manuela's parents supported the family. She is a 23-year-old woman, and despite the fact that she only went to school for 8 years, she successfully manages her food business. Manuela has also established her household and lives with her husband; they don't have any children yet.

She sells delicious food every day outside her house starting at 7 in the morning and ending at 9 at night. As she needs to invest in the business, she is requesting her first loan from Kiva lenders. She will buy an industrial stove to increase production of the food items.

These 9 women live in the rural area of the department/state of Sololá. They speak K’iche and have joined Friendship Bridge's communal bank called “Las Rosas de Chuamango” with the goal of achieving comprehensive growth. They have small businesses in food and traditional clothing. By participating in the Microcredit Plus program, these women benefit from loans, education, and health services. During the meetings, a facilitator shares information about four areas: health, business, family and women. Topics like health, family, women, and business are of vital importance to them.

It would be very difficult for these women to have access to a loan at a local bank. Thanks to Kiva lenders and Friendship Bridge, the women will have a door opened. Thank you!
