Hi. I am a doctor of Traditional Asian Medicine who specializes in maternal and women’s health born and raised in Queens, NY. As a child of the eighties, I lived through the crack epidemic. While no one I lived with was a user, I witnessed firsthand in my neighborhood, health disparities, and sickness. I grew up with a deep sense of wanting to make things right and to help people be healthy. I used writing as a way to release the pain of what I observed.
After witnessing the healing benefits of acupuncture and Traditional Asian Medicine in the late nineties, I went on to become a practitioner in 2003 and excitedly helped others experience the benefits. After I gave birth to my son in 2012, I got sick and battled health issues, some of which were quite serious for many years. I learned that what I was experiencing was postnatal depletion and physical health complaints that can happen after giving birth.
I decided that if I pulled through, I would write about my experience and help future mothers and those who care about them be better prepared, which I did in my book, A Taste Of Our Own Medicine, which became an online bestseller in 2017.
My experience has led me to look more closely at the conditions that women, particularly black and brown disproportionately encounter, like maternal mortality, maternal morbidity, and fibroids, and help to provide more solutions. My plan for the future is to help as many women as possible take action towards helping to prevent postnatal depletion, fibroids, and any other conditions that can predispose them to further health disparities, continue to identify areas where Traditional Asian Medicine can help women have better health and create resources to assist in doing so.

Business Description
My business helps black and brown women lessen health disparities with the tools of Traditional Asian Medicine. Health disparities that I work to help women with include preventing maternal mortality, maternal morbidity, fibroids, and other health issues. Danett Bean Acupuncture PC was founded as a place where women could know they were respected and get one-on-one care and solutions to help address their health concerns. The tools of Traditional Asian Medicine that I use to assist women with their health include acupuncture, herbal medicine, Qi Gong, and Eastern Nutrition.
Day to day I work with women either in one on one consultations (virtual or in-person for acupuncture), provide webinars to promote health education, and lead Qi Gong Classes. I am working to get my complete online program up to help women towards preventing fibroids. I am most proud of the fact that despite varying challenges of having to move my practice many times over the years due to gentrification my business is still open. My business is also MWBE certified. My biggest challenge is recouping from the effects of how the pandemic affected my business, being required to close down, and having to home school my son while schools were closed.
My goals for the future are to get my online program towards helping to prevent fibroids in the hands of as many women as possible, help more people to know about maternal health and write more books and create more tools to help close the racial health gap.
What is the purpose of this loan?
With the loan that I would get from Kiva, I would hire someone who could help me do a campaign to get people to attend my Holistic Methods Towards Fibroid Prevention webinars as well as attention to the online program that I offer for it. I would hire a contractor that helps me out with administrative work for more hours so that they could handle more of the back-office operations.
I would have someone complete my website redesign so that my most current offerings are and continue to be up. I would order more inventory so as women signed up for the fibroid prevention program, items that come with the program would be ready to ship to them.

What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
