A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and seeds to enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits, and increase her business.

Sharon's story

Meet Sharon, a young mum of three. She is hardworking, optimistic, and ambitious. She has always believed in progressing and pulling herself out of poverty. Sharon has the willingness to risk her resources in pursuit of profit. She is married and resides with her husband and children in a remote village in Nakuru. Sharon practices crop production and dairy.

Though she dearly loves crop farming, her farm is at risk of attack by pests and diseases. For poor rural farmers, treating crop diseases requires an increase in total operational costs that, in most cases, exceeds the value of the output harvested. The remedy is to use hybrid seeds that are resistant to pests and diseases.

Sharon is borrowing this loan to purchase farming inputs such as fertilizers and hybrid seeds to boost the quality of her farm products, earn more profit, and elevate her living standards. This loan is therefore an opportunity she did not have before.

Her irregular income and lack of collateral security were the main drawbacks keeping her from accessing a loan from commercial banks. Thanks to Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva, the life of Sharon and her family will be changed through this loan.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
