I have been in sales all of my working life and love working with people. With the help of my husband, at the end of 2018, I finally achieved my dream of opening a bar and bistro. We opened The Req Room in the heart of Overland (MO) and every day I get to interact with my neighborhood. We set out to create a space for people to enjoy themselves and have a great time. We are located in a small commercial strip in the neighborhood of Overland. This allows us to be a neighbor to our neighbors.
The building we are in was previously a bar for over 30 years. We had a lot to live up to and didn't want to just continue what was previously here. We wanted to use that foundation and grow something that was our own. We chose the name "Req Room, as a play on words of rec (recreational) room and our last name, Requejo. We also chose it because we wanted to be a place where people could come to enjoy themselves and always have something to do. Although Covid took some of the wind out of our sails, we pushed through it, and with the help of our neighbors and friends, we have managed to create an amazing community.

We opened The Req Room to be a place to enjoy a drink, have amazing food, enjoy yourself and have fun. We host many events to keep everyone smiling and having a fantastic time. We are located in the heart of Overland, MO, surrounded by a neighborhood that makes up the majority of our clientele.
We got our opportunity in November of 2018 to open our business when the previous owner decided to retire. The location was great for what we wanted to achieve and small enough for me and my husband to be able to run.
With the name The Req Room, we wanted to be a destination for people to enjoy themselves. We have a board game corner, where people can choose from a huge shelf of games to play with their friends or complete strangers they hit it off with. We host a local live band monthly and have recently started a comedy show night that was a huge success in not only helping us grow but also helped us in showing people our vision.
The bar that stood here before us never focused on food. This was one of the big changes that we made when we opened The Req Room. We wanted to really set ourselves apart with our food. We add a bit of flair to every dish we introduced, including, carnitas street tacos, pork potstickers, and our burger, which comes on a fantastic pretzel roll that is made here in St. Louis. We love the chance to feed others and wanted to make every menu item special.
What is the purpose of this loan?
We are applying for this loan because although we had an amazing year when we opened, our high was short-lived. Just as we were really gaining momentum, we were shut down for the pandemic. Much of our furniture, we inherited from the previous owner and it was in bad shape, to begin with. We had hoped to be able to replace them sometime after opening but we had to use most of our savings to keep our doors open and survive through the pandemic.
Although we did survive, we have equipment that is on its last leg and too small for us to be able to really grow and flourish. We are in dire need of new bar stool and tables to be able to be a comfortable and cozy establishment.
This loan will help us in replacing some dying equipment as well as finally having decent seating for our customers.

What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
