Lakeshia's story

Hello, my name is Lakeshia, founder, and CEO of Guyanese Swag. I am a client of the Florida Women’s Business Center in Delray Beach Florida which helped me develop my business roadmap.

When I migrated to the United States at the age of 10, I was often bullied in school, due to my foreign accent. Much to my disappointment, as I continued through life, I noticed a distinct lack of awareness around Guyana as a country, with people often mistaking it for Ghana in Africa or only associating it with the tragic fate of Jim's followers Jonestown in 1978.

Officially known as the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, my home country is on the northern mainland of South America. It has a rich Caribbean culture born from the traditions of our indigenous tribes.

My love for Guyana inspired me to take pride in our culture and heritage. Hence, I decided to use graphic design skills to create a suite of lifestyle products that encourage my fellow Guyanese to celebrate our heritage and culture in a way that educates others about who we are; as a people and a nation.

My Guyanese Swag collection includes a vast array of vibrant clothing, shoes, and accessories which showcase our Guyana flag, map, coat of arms, and motto. Creative tribal-inspired designs in our country's colors bring the collection to life while telling a story about our heritage and culture.

As a lifelong student and entrepreneur, I believe my experience working as a Digital Business Development Consultant for the past ten years helping fellow entrepreneurs build their businesses has equipped me to grow Guyanese Swag into a successful company.
