A loan helped black woman-owned business add team members who will help serve their community.

Monice's story

I am a black women in the fitness and wellness industry who has seen firsthand how exercise can make a major impact on someone's life and livelihood. I grew up in a Jamaican household so was inevitable that I would become a track and field athlete and ultimately discover a love for fitness. It wasn't until my mom passed away that I realized I needed to start shifting my focus to community wellness. I believe if you can develop a strong connection with your own health and wellbeing then that connection will begin to resonate with your loved ones!

I started my business during the height of public health insecurity, the coronavirus pandemic. During this time I recognized there was a real need for a space where folks can safely exercise. I opened my brick and mortar location and eventually, I was able to build up my clientele to a point where I could start doing more free group sessions to give folks of different socio-economic backgrounds a chance to participate.

Seeing folks starting to develop a healthy appreciation of their bodies keeps me motivated. My favorite thing in the world is when clients tell me that daily life has gotten a lot easier since they implemented an exercise routine. Everyone deserves to be happy and feel healthy. I'm just here to help them navigate through this process.

I'm proud to be someone who people can turn to when they feel the most vulnerable.
