A loan helped a non-binary flower farmer start their urban flower farm.

Brennan's story

I come from a long line of farmers. My family before me farmed in northern Michigan, and the other side of my family farmed in a small Italian mountain town, one I hope to visit someday. 2020 I signed up for a flower farming course and couldn't get enough. A farmer friend generously shared his land for our first year of growth and we had an incredible tulip, sweet pea, & ranunculus crop. I was blown away by the success we had in our first year, and local florists were delighted to use such unique varieties and local products!

Flower farming like any farming is very hard work. It's hard to express how rewarding it is to sell flowers I've grown to local florists. You can not beat the quality of locally grown flowers.

Pulled between the energy of the city and a quiet space my partner and I have purchased a small lot in an industrial area of town. Incredibly grateful to clean up and restore this piece of land, it will take some time as the growing area is full of metal debris.

In my 9 years of floral design, I have found the most joy in providing specialty cut flowers. American grown flower farmers are making a comeback, and I am so excited to be part of this movement, but we need support getting off the ground.
