When I moved to Maine, there was no eyebrow threading business. After seeing this business shortage in the community, I became one of the first people to begin offering this service. I had to explain the process of removing hair by threading since many individuals were unaware of this beauty service. Unfortunately, in 2015, I got breast cancer, and my recovery fight was extremely hard. Although this was a very difficult time for me and my family, it helped me become stronger and follow my dreams. I decided to go to school and receive my aesthetician license.
Since I started threading eyebrows in Iran at age 15, I already had a solid foundation. After getting my license, I opened a business called Ruby Eyebrow Threading in 2019. At first, I was afraid to open my own place, but my local community was extremely supportive of both me and my business. With over 26 years of experience, I have been able to make my business very successful. Since opening a few years ago, my business has consistently been expanding. I am very proud to serve the people of Maine and introduce them to these threading techniques, which are common in the Middle East.
What is the purpose of this loan?
The loan will be used for four purposes: marketing, inventory, equipment, and business expansion. First, the loan will be used to create a better business website. I also want to create ads and post them on social media and local stations. If I can record videos for this marketing campaign, I will also need to hire people to professionally record the information. Second, the loan will be used to increase inventory, such as gloves, threading kits, brow laminations kits, and tinting materials for eyebrows. Third, the loan will be used for equipment, specifically a larger drawer, bigger mirrors, and COVID safety equipment. Fourth, to expand the business, the loan will be used to start my eyebrow threading online and in-person classes.
Specifically, the loan will help ensure that I can advertise the class and create professional recordings for online courses. For in-person classes, I hope to expand the space with new beauty chairs and buy kits for class participants to practice. Ultimately, I am looking to expand my business and make it into a brand that is well known in Maine and beyond!

Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
