A loan helped to buy more charcoal and clothes to sell.

Mamie's story

This is 49-year-old Mamie from Liberia. She is a single mother with 3 children. All of her children are in school and live at home.

Mamie is a hardworking businesswoman who sells charcoal and clothes. She learned how to sell from her mother and started the business with her own savings.

Mamie uses a car to transport supplies at her business site. She sells Monday through Saturday, 8 hours.

To maintain her business, she requested a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva field partner, to buy more charcoal and clothes to sell in order to increase her income.

She likes her business because it helps to support her family. Her dream for the future is to build her house.

She wishes to say thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
