A loan helped a black woman-owned business create employment opportunities in the Hilltop community.

Cassandra's story

Growing up on hilltop, I remember going to the K Street bakery. The feeling that it gave me, my family, and my friends were something that added a little sweetness to our community. I am from a family line of entrepreneurs and having a business and impacting my community has always been a part of me. With an education in Sociology and 20+ years in telecommunications and being happy. There was just something about baking my aunt Ernestine's signature pound cake to help raise money for our church that helped us realize that there was more for us. In January 2001 "Love By The Slice Baking & Catering Co" was born. We hadn't had a bakery in hilltop since I was growing up and it was time to bring something sweet back to the Hilltop community.
