My business is multi-faceted as we are a wholesale distributor/supplier in one space, and a retail supplier with an online presence in another space. We source products in niche categories based on customer need to include, but not limited to medical, dental, cleaning/janitorial, paper, pet, health & beauty, and clothing to name a few. I formed ABB in Michigan as a single-member LLC in 2018 as a home-based business, then in 2020, I relocated ABB to 18,000 sq. feet of warehouse space in Central Louisiana.
The inspiration to transition from working sales/marketing for national companies to the humble beginnings of business ownership came from learning key details regarding their diversity & inclusion goals specifically within their supply chain. My previous work experience taught me that there were real commitments by government agencies as well as national companies to at the very least, allow me the opportunity to do business with them.
What is the purpose of this loan?
As a wholesale supplier, most of my customers require delivery of the product first, and then they are invoiced and pay their bill sometime later. This creates a shortage in cash flow at times. As a minority/woman-owned small business, my personal experience with banks and lending institutions has resulted in ridiculous high-interest loan approvals, denial, or requesting a co-signer due to stringent underwriting algorithms that are full of hidden or some type of bias. With adequate funding my business will be able to do 2 things; buy supplies upfront without it depleting me of operational funds and employ members of the underserved and impoverished community where I am located. Being able to hire members of this very small community is a cornerstone of my business agenda and equally important is the fact that I need help.

What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
